BE PART OF THIS MIRACLE

Humanity Home for Children, located in the Mamboleo section of Kisumu, Kenya, provides a home and family to 31 children.  Our children are well fed, have safe, secure, comfortable rooms, go to decent schools, and receive medical and dental care.  Most importantly, they are loved and valued and have grown into a caring, loving, beautiful family.

Humanity Home is run by our director and partner in this calling, Judy Wariero.  We employ and provide a livelihood for two cooks, a social worker, a person who does the laundry, two nannies, a yardman, round-the-clock security guards, and a part-time housekeeper.

Judy and her two young biological children live in an apartment within the house.  Yours truly, Jim Cederberg, also has an apartment in the house and lives there nine months a year.  Judy is known to all the children as Mommy, and the kids call me Daddy.  We strive to be worthy of that honor.

We are unlike any other children’s home because our sole guiding principle is to love and treat the children as our own.

Humanity Home began with a dream that started from, of all things, playing baseball with kids in Kenya.  In 2010, I and my friend Drew Sauer traveled to Kenya with a missionary group.  Our mission was to play baseball with kids.  Baseball was completely new to the kids in Kenya and was wildly popular.  Many of the kids we met were orphans.  We formed a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, 4222 Humanity Through Baseball Foundation, to continue meeting people through the game of baseball and to help orphans and other vulnerable children in Kenya.  In multiple trips, we delivered hundreds of gloves and balls, played for hundreds of hours with many hundreds of kids and met thousands of others.   Over and over again, teachers and school principals told us that our visits would be remembered by these kids for the rest of their lives.  But everywhere we went we met hungry, filthy kids in rags, with no adults looking after them.  For me, the contrast between wealthy America and the crushing poverty and neglect suffered by children in Africa became unbearable.  I decided to try to do something about it.

Over the course of multiple visits to Kenya, I made friends, became part of families, and searched for the best way to change the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children.  I dreamed of creating our own home for children, so that we and those who help us would know exactly how the home is being run, how the children are being treated and how our money is spent.

After years of preparation, Humanity Home for Children was opened on February 1, 2017.  Judy, truly a Godsend, joined us in March 2017.  This is her life’s calling. She is the heart and soul of Humanity Home.  In October 2024, we have 31 children, ages 12 months to 19 years.  They are beautiful.  Their stories are heartbreaking and heartwarming.  Love and other basic necessities have changed their lives, and ours, in ways that amaze us every day.

Please join us in this adventure of the heart and spirit.
